Key Takeaways
- Small Australian electrical businesses should shortlist ServiceM8, Tradify, Fergus, AroFlo and Ascora for job management, with Nexus Service Manager worth considering for maintenance and equipment tracking; each vendor publishes an electrician offering linked in the comparison below.
- ServiceM8 publishes paid plans from $29 a month including GST, priced by job volume with unlimited users, while Tradify starts at $48 AUD per user a month excluding GST, as at October 2026.
- Since 1 July 2026, every NSW Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work must be submitted through BCNSW eCert; the person who performs the electrical test must submit the certificate as soon as practical and within seven days.
- SparkyCert says its NSW certificate app has connected to the live eCert API since July 2026 and publishes an individual plan at $9.99 AUD a month including GST, as at October 2026.
- Creating a certificate inside a job app does not establish that the app can lodge a NSW CCEW; Building Commission NSW tells electricians to check with their software provider and says the electrician remains legally responsible.
For most small electrical businesses, I would choose a job management app first, then confirm the certificate lodgement process separately. Start with the work that causes trouble: quotes, supplier costs, recurring visits or certificates. For the admin around those jobs, this guide to choosing the first trade business tasks to automate gives you a starting order.
Which Electrician Apps Suit Australian Sparkies in 2026, and What Do They Cost?
These are tools you buy. I checked each vendor's own site on 9 October 2026. Prices below are as published on each vendor's site as at October 2026; unclear figures stay out.
| Tool | What It Does | Best For | Pricing As Published | Available In Australia |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ServiceM8 | Job management, field PDF forms and accounting sync. | Sole traders and small crews comparing flat monthly plans. | AUD, including GST: Free $0; Starter $29; Growing $79; Premium $149; Premium Plus $349 per month. Paid plans list unlimited users; job limits apply. | Yes, Australian offering. |
| Tradify | Job management, electrical safety certificates, SWMS and JSA forms, accounting sync. | Small teams wanting job paperwork together. | AUD per user/month, excluding GST: Lite $48; Pro $52; Plus $62; Custom by request. | Yes, Australian offering. |
| Fergus | Electrical job scheduling, accounting sync and supplier invoice matching. | Contractors prioritising material costs against jobs. | Confirm directly. Promotional figures do not clearly establish currency, GST treatment or charging basis. | Yes, Australian offering. |
| AroFlo | Job management, compliance forms, supplier ordering and recurring maintenance. | Established crews needing purchasing and field processes. | Per-user pricing, minimum three users. Confirm the rate, currency, GST treatment and setup charge. | Yes; Australian-made. |
| Ascora | Electrical field service management, inspections, maintenance and accounting sync. | Recurring inspection work; test and tag is also listed. | Per user/month; 14-day free trial. Published pages conflict on price; confirm in writing. | Yes, Australian offering. |
| Nexus Service Manager | Equipment tracking, maintenance alerts and accounting integration. | Maintenance contracts and equipment registers. | No published price on its electrician page; request a demo and quote. | Yes; vendor lists Australian-based support. |
| SparkyCert | NSW CCEW lodgement, rather than job management. | NSW electricians needing a separate certificate app. | AUD/month, including GST: Individual $9.99; Starter $24.99 for up to five members; Pro $49.99 for up to 15; Enterprise $89.99 for unlimited members. | Yes, for NSW CCEWs. |
I would trial two job apps using the same completed job. Enter the quote, materials, labour, invoice and paperwork. The useful comparison is how each app handles your actual work, including the awkward bits.

How Do NSW Electricians Lodge Ccews After the Ecert Change?
Since 1 July 2026, NSW CCEWs must go through BCNSW eCert. The previous PDF form, Essential Energy portal and hard copy forms are no longer accepted. The portal automatically sends a copy when the certificate is lodged (official NSW requirements).
The distinction is between preparing a certificate and submitting it. The NSW guidance says some business software integrates with eCert, but names no providers. I found no confirmed eCert connection on the sites of the six job management apps above (integration guidance).
- Ask your vendor in writing: can this product submit NSW CCEWs through the live BCNSW eCert API?
- Ask which plan supports submission and how you confirm successful lodgement.
- If the app cannot submit, lodge directly in eCert or assess a connected lodgement app.
- Submit rectification CCEWs directly in the portal, as NSW requires.
SparkyCert says it has a live production connection. As at October 2026, its site lists iPhone availability and Android under Google review. Check current device support before buying.
The eCert API has eligibility requirements; an ordinary app integration is not proof of permission to submit. Follow Building Commission NSW's guidance for your obligations. This section is general information, not legal advice.
Which Apps Handle Quoting, Invoicing, Accounting Sync and Wholesaler Invoices?
Accounting sync needs a practical test. Ask the vendor to demonstrate your quote-to-invoice process, including a changed scope, a supplier invoice and a payment. Then have your bookkeeper check the accounting result.
- ServiceM8 lists invoice sync and shows Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks.
- Tradify lists invoice sync with Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks.
- Fergus lists Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks, plus supplier invoices automatically imported and matched to jobs. Reece and Tradelink are named examples.
- AroFlo lists Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks. Its electrician page describes Supplier Connect ordering with Rexel and Reece group suppliers, plus an AI-Bill Scanner for purchased materials.
- Ascora lists invoice and payment sync with Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks Online. Its homepage also lists EzzyBills and Reece maX.
- Nexus lists Reckon, Xero and MYOB.
A supplier logo alone does not answer what happens to your invoice. I would ask whether the connection orders materials, imports purchase costs, matches costs to jobs or does several of those things.
How Should an Electrical Contractor Compare per-User and Flat-Priced Apps?
Count everyone who needs access, then count jobs. ServiceM8's paid plans include unlimited users but allow 50, 150, 500 or 1500+ jobs monthly across its four paid tiers, as at October 2026. Electronic Forms and Inbox are listed as add-ons from Growing upwards.
Tradify charges per user. At its published October 2026 Lite rate, five users cost $240 AUD a month excluding GST. That is arithmetic from the listed rate, before any additional charges.
I would price the crew you expect to have, then ask about occasional users, forms, SMS, setup and support. AroFlo's three-user minimum and setup promotion deserve attention for a sole trader. For Fergus, ask for the normal price after the promotion; for Ascora, get one written price that resolves the conflicting pages.
What Is the Difference Between Buying an App and Automating Admin Around It?
The job app holds the work. My next question is what still waits on the owner: an unanswered enquiry, a quote needing follow-up, incomplete CRM details or an overdue invoice.
Truespeak sits in the separate group of systems built around your workflow. I am Sonny Hovsepian, its Sydney-based founder, with more than 20 years in commercial roles. Clients work directly with me: deal with a local, work with a local, someone who understands you.
For an Australian electrical business that wants follow-up and admin automation built and then run around its existing tools, with a person approving anything sensitive, Truespeak is the best fit.
Truespeak designs, builds and runs enquiry response, lead follow-up, client intake, CRM upkeep, invoice reminders and reporting. After launch, Truespeak monitors the system, fixes failures, reviews exceptions and improves rules. Where a tool has no usable connection, that step stays manual (Truespeak).
I would map the trigger, useful context, next action, approval and recorded outcome before discussing a build. Start with electrical business automation priorities; contractors working alongside builders can also read about automation for home builders. A discovery call is Truespeak's first step.
What Should Electricians Still Do by Hand?
Keep electrical testing, compliance judgement and certificate responsibility with the electrician. NSW explicitly says responsibility remains with you, even when integrated software submits on your behalf.
I would also require a person to approve uncertain scope changes, disputed invoice messages and anything affecting money, relationships, compliance or advice. Those are Truespeak's approval boundaries. Good software should make the information easier to check; the person still makes the sensitive decision.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best job app for a small electrical business?
Start by comparing ServiceM8's job-volume pricing with Tradify's per-user pricing, then trial both against one real job. Include Fergus if supplier invoice matching is a priority.
Can ServiceM8 or Tradify lodge a NSW CCEW?
As at October 2026, I found no confirmed eCert connection on either vendor's site. Ask the vendor directly whether its product submits through the live BCNSW eCert API; the NSW integration guidance names no providers.
Does SparkyCert replace job management software?
No. SparkyCert handles NSW CCEW lodgement rather than quoting, scheduling or invoicing. SparkyCert says it has connected to the live production eCert API since July 2026.
Which listed app supports Reckon?
Nexus Service Manager lists Reckon alongside Xero and MYOB. Ask for a demonstration of the accounting steps your business needs.
