Microsoft Copilot Pricing in Australia (2026)

For a small Australian business, I'd compare Copilot Business with a Microsoft 365 bundle before buying an add-on. The subscription is only part of the budget: allow for the underlying Microsoft 365 plan, staff setup and any separate workflow work. As at September 2026, Copilot Business is AU$26.91 per user per month in the first year on Microsoft's promotion (original price AU$31.40), or AU$37.68 month to month. What Does Microsoft Copilot Cost in Australia In 2026?

The following AUD prices were published on Microsoft's Australian site as at September 2026. Check the linked pages before ordering because prices and promotions change. Check the GST treatment on Microsoft's checkout before you compare these figures with other quotes.

Monthly billing and a monthly commitment are different. The enterprise option above commits you for a year even though payments arrive monthly. The Copilot Business promotion runs from 1 July to 31 December 2026, applies only to the first year and excludes trial subscriptions. Microsoft publishes those promotional conditions here.

Copilot Business vs Microsoft 365 Copilot: Which Should You Buy?

Microsoft says Copilot Business delivers the same AI-powered productivity features as the existing Copilot product, with a maximum of 300 licences per tenant. A lower price does not mean a reduced productivity feature set.

I'd start with Copilot Business if your business fits that limit and has an eligible plan. Larger organisations and businesses using enterprise plans such as E3 or E5 should compare the enterprise product against Microsoft's licensing prerequisites.

There is also a naming wrinkle: Microsoft's Learn documentation now calls Microsoft 365 Copilot “Microsoft Copilot”. This article uses the Australian pricing-page names so you can match the product to the checkout.

Do You Need Microsoft 365 First, and Are Bundles Cheaper?

Copilot Business is an add-on with licensing prerequisites. Microsoft's current licensing page lists Business Basic, Business Standard, Business Premium, Apps for Business and Microsoft Teams Essentials among the qualifying options. Check your exact subscription before purchasing.

The bundle comparison is worth doing. As at September 2026, Business Standard without Copilot costs AU$25.20 on a monthly subscription. Adding the AU$37.68 monthly Copilot Business subscription produces a calculated total of AU$62.88 per user per month. The published monthly-billed Standard with Copilot bundle is AU$42.24.

Likewise, Business Premium costs AU$39.48 monthly as at September 2026. Adding AU$37.68 gives a calculated AU$77.16, compared with the AU$57.48 monthly-billed Premium bundle. Those additions are my arithmetic, not separate Microsoft offers.

For illustration, five Standard with Copilot seats at the September 2026 monthly-billed price calculate to AU$211.20 a month. Keeping that price for twelve months would total AU$2,534.40. That is a budgeting calculation, not an annual-plan quote; confirm tax, commitment, eligibility and renewal terms before comparing offers.

Is Free Copilot Chat Enough for a Small Service Business?

Microsoft includes web-based Copilot Chat at no extra cost with an eligible Microsoft 365 subscription. Work-based chat using the user's own work content requires a Microsoft Copilot licence.

I'd begin with included Chat if the immediate job is drafting from information a staff member supplies or exploring a question using web information. I'd consider paid seats when the job depends on working inside Microsoft 365 apps and using business content. Microsoft lists Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams among the paid features.

Pick a recurring task before buying. Have the person doing that work compare the output, corrections and effort involved. What Does Copilot Studio Cost on Top?

As at September 2026, Microsoft publishes Copilot Studio at AU$299.30/pack/month for 25,000 Copilot Credits, with a tenant-wide licence. Microsoft also offers pay-as-you-go billing for credits used during the billing period.

That is not an automatic extra charge for every Copilot user. Microsoft says licence holders can build and use internal agents within Microsoft 365 using Copilot Chat at no additional cost. The standalone Studio licence adds external publishing, including websites and apps, and access for users without a licence.

I'd ask whoever proposes an agent to identify the included entitlement, the separately billed usage and who will monitor consumption. A credit pack does not tell you the finished cost of handling an enquiry.

Can Staff Use Microsoft 365 Personal, Family or Premium for Work?

As at September 2026, Microsoft's individual pricing page lists Personal at AU$16.00/month or AU$159.00/year, Family at AU$18.00/month or AU$179.00/year, and Premium at AU$33.00/month or AU$329.00/year. Microsoft's page does not say whether these prices include GST.

Microsoft sells these as plans for individuals. For a team, I'd use business licensing, so every seat is managed by the business and each person's Copilot access is confirmed against the work they do.

How Should a Small Business Budget for Copilot?

I would separate the ongoing subscription from the work needed to make it useful:

1. Count the people who need paid features. Assign a recurring task to each proposed seat.
2. Compare the whole subscription. Include the base Microsoft 365 plan, Copilot, billing commitment and renewal conditions.
3. Allow for initial preparation. Review file access, organise useful documents and show staff how to check outputs.
4. Identify ongoing work. Name the person responsible for access changes, output review and any separately billed agent usage.

Permissions deserve attention before rollout. Microsoft says Copilot only surfaces organisational data a user already has permission to view. Review who can see what in SharePoint and Teams. Microsoft also says generated responses are not guaranteed to be factual, so keep review time in the budget.

What Does a Copilot Subscription Not Cover?

I would not treat a per-seat subscription as a quote to design and operate your enquiry-to-CRM-to-follow-up process. Specify the trigger, the systems involved, the approval point and who handles a failure after launch.
