I'd choose ChatGPT Business when the team already works comfortably in ChatGPT and the required connections check out. I'd choose Claude Team when its published connections suit the business and owner approval before enabling connectors suits the way you work. Neither subscription settles who follows up an enquiry, checks a draft or fixes a failed workflow.

Chatgpt or Claude: Which One Should an Australian Service Business Choose?

The two plans are closer than the hype suggests. I'd start with one real job: finding the right client information and preparing a reply someone can approve. Then check the connections, permissions and output against that job.

ChatGPT's practical case is familiarity if staff already use it. Claude's case is easier to assess from its named connections and the owner-controlled starting point. Those are reasons to test a plan, not evidence that one produces better answers.

Anthropic also announced a multi-year Xero partnership in April 2026. I'd follow that if Xero matters to the business, but I would not buy a subscription assuming a particular Xero function is available today.

How Do Chatgpt Business and Claude Team Pricing Compare, and What About Currency and GST?

As at September 2026, ChatGPT Business lists $20 per user per month billed annually or $25 billed monthly. Claude Team Standard lists US$20 and US$25 on the same billing bases, excluding applicable tax. Both require at least two seats.

OpenAI's figures appear to be US dollars, but the checked page does not explicitly identify the currency or tax treatment. So the numerical list prices match, but neither page gives an Australian-dollar price.

Claude also offers Premium seats, priced as at September 2026 at US$100 per month billed annually or US$125 billed monthly, excluding tax, with five times Standard-seat usage (Claude pricing). Make sure you're comparing Standard with Business before deciding the costs match.

For an Australian business, the amount, currency and GST shown at your own checkout are what count. I would check those before approving annual billing.

Enter the correct business name and tax ID before the first invoice. Anthropic says billing details affect future cycles and completed invoices cannot be updated retrospectively. Ask your accountant how GST on offshore digital subscriptions applies to your business.

Which Plan Keeps Your Business Data Out of Model Training?

Both business plans do by default, as at September 2026. OpenAI states no training on business data by default. Anthropic says commercial-product inputs and outputs are not used for training by default, with exceptions including explicit feedback or opting in.

The consumer-account distinction matters. On Claude Free, Pro and Max, users choose whether chats and coding sessions can improve Claude. I'd put client work in the business workspace and make that a staff rule.

I would not call either plan safer overall from a training policy alone. Check who can access client material, which connected services can act on it and where approval is required. A no-training default does not answer those questions.

As at September 2026, Claude Team explicitly lists Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar, GitHub, Microsoft 365 and Slack for finding context in existing work. That gives an owner a concrete starting list to check against the business's systems.

Claude connectors can retrieve data and take actions in connected services, but a Team owner must enable connectors for the organisation first. I'd review permissions before doing that.

On ChatGPT Business, plugins and apps are on by default. Administrators can restrict supported apps to read-only or approved actions. Some documented ChatGPT Work features depend on the plan and workspace configuration, so check the actual Business workspace before promising a workflow.

What Does Switching from One to the Other Involve?

I'd budget attention for rebuilding the working setup: instructions, projects, permissions, connections and staff habits. Matching numerical seat prices leave little reason to switch on headline price alone.

1. List the work worth keeping. Capture useful instructions, reference documents and the checks staff perform.
2. Test a representative task. Use a sanitised enquiry, quote request or follow-up draft and review the result against your own criteria.
3. Re-create connections carefully. Check what the new workspace can read and what it can change.
4. Set billing and ownership. Confirm checkout currency, tax details, seat requirements and who administers access.
5. Move the team deliberately. Tell staff which workspace holds client work and who handles exceptions.
