MYOB AI: What It Automates and What It Doesn't

MYOB AI can help with work inside your accounts. Several features still need review, approval or confirmation of availability. What Is Iris by MYOB and What Does It Include?

MYOB describes Iris by MYOB as the intelligence engine built into its accounting software. Ask Iris answers financial and business questions through a chat inside MYOB Business.

The wider feature set includes AI BAS, Smart Reconciliation, bank transaction category suggestions, AI Business Insights and Smart Invoice Reminders. MYOB's product roadmap also lists upgraded optical character recognition, or OCR, for capturing detail from receipts and bills.

These features do different jobs. Reading a receipt, suggesting a category and explaining cash flow each remove a different piece of accounting work. None establishes that the whole process can run unattended.

Which MYOB Plans Include AI, and What Does AI BAS Cost?

The MYOB pricing comparison lists the following availability as at 28 October 2026. Confirm access inside your own file before buying or changing plans.

AccountRight Premier is outside this table. MYOB's pages differ on rollout status, particularly for Smart Reconciliation, so a tick in the comparison does not settle access for your file.

Can MYOB AI Lodge My BAS or Change My Books?

MYOB's AI BAS page explicitly says lodgement is not currently available and your books update only with your approval. You or your BAS agent still lodge through the ATO or agent portal.

As at 28 October 2026, AI BAS supports Australian employing and non-employing businesses on Lite or Pro. It flags missing documents and GST issues, matches transactions to receipts and produces a downloadable BAS decision report. Its scope includes cash-based BAS fields G1, 1A and 1B, plus PAYG withholding fields W1 and W2 for employers.

MYOB says AI BAS can generate incorrect information and MYOB is not a registered tax or BAS agent. Truespeak gives no tax or BAS advice. I'd keep your accountant or BAS agent involved in decisions you cannot confidently check.

Can MYOB AI Chase Unpaid Invoices?

Yes, within the workflow described in MYOB's Smart Invoice Reminders help article. You choose a tone and schedule, with up to five reminders before, on or after the due date, as at 28 October 2026. Scheduled reminders email automatically; manual reminders can be reviewed before sending.

MYOB also shows typical customer payment timing and suggests whether to remind, contact the customer or wait. Reminders are not sent for invoices with Prepaid or Cash on delivery terms.

The documentation does not describe reading your inbox, detecting disputes or writing each message around the job history. MYOB advises turning reminders off during a dispute. How Does the MYOB Connector for Claude and ChatGPT Work?

MYOB's roadmap describes the MYOB Connector as a fast, read-only view of your numbers, including profit and loss, sales, receivables and payables. The Claude connector listing identifies MYOB as its developer and labels the feature beta, as at 28 October 2026.

You sign in to connect MYOB. The listed tools retrieve business information, financial year dates, outstanding customer balances, payables, profit and loss, sales invoice totals and standard payment terms.

Read-only means those tools retrieve information without changing records. You can ask about supported figures, but the connector cannot raise an invoice, send a reminder or update a contact. Where Does a Service Business Still Need Automation Around MYOB?

The MYOB features documented above centre on transactions, reporting and invoices already raised. Those pages do not describe enquiry replies, quote preparation, client intake or CRM upkeep.

I'd start with the point where work stalls: an enquiry waiting for a reply, a quote needing follow-up, or an overdue invoice where the owner knows why payment has stopped. Each needs context beyond an accounting balance.

What Should You Check Before Relying on MYOB AI?

1. Confirm access. Check your plan, file and beta eligibility.
2. Check the output. MYOB warns that AI can get things wrong. Review suggestions before approving changes.
3. Check where data goes. Review the connected AI provider's data settings before granting access or sharing financial information.
4. Check the promised action. Automatic BAS lodgement is outside AI BAS's documented capability. Any proposed integration that writes to the books needs an explicit approval step.
