AI Subscription Pricing in Australia (2026)

Key Takeaways

  • Microsoft 365 Copilot Business starts at AU$26.91 per user per month, paid yearly and excluding GST, under a first-year promotion checked on 31 October 2026; an eligible Microsoft 365 Business licence is also required.
  • Claude Team Standard costs US$20 per member per month billed annually or US$25 billed monthly for US customers before tax, as at 31 October 2026; Australian pricing must be confirmed at checkout.
  • As at October 2026, Gemini is included in Google Workspace Business plans rather than sold as a separate seat, and Google's prices exclude tax, so confirm the Australian price and GST in Google's checkout or Admin console.
  • ChatGPT Business is OpenAI's team plan, billed per seat; confirm the seat price, billing currency, GST and minimum seats on OpenAI's pricing page before buying.
  • Per-seat AI subscriptions can carry additional usage charges: Claude Team offers usage credits, Claude Enterprise charges for usage at API rates, and Microsoft lists usage-based billing for selected advanced features, as at 31 October 2026.
  • A team AI subscription needs a configured workflow around it to monitor enquiries, update a CRM or follow up invoices; budget separately for designing, building and running those connections.

As at 31 October 2026, Microsoft is the only vendor in this comparison with a verified AUD price. Claude publishes US prices, Gemini comes inside Workspace, and ChatGPT Business pricing needs checking directly with OpenAI. I'd choose around the work your staff actually do, then compare the full bill. Start with the guide to AI for small business if you're still deciding which work needs help.

What Do the Main Business AI Plans Cost per User in 2026?

The table separates published prices from figures I couldn't confirm in Australian dollars. All pricing information below is as at 31 October 2026. A missing AUD figure means you need a local checkout price before budgeting.

Microsoft's current promotion runs from 1 July to 31 December 2026 and applies to the first year only. You pay the add-on on top of your eligible Microsoft 365 Business licence. The Microsoft Copilot pricing guide covers the bundles.

As at 31 October 2026, Claude Team requires at least two members and supports up to 150 seats. Usage limits apply to each member separately. I'd start with Standard seats and identify who needs Premium from actual use. See the Claude pricing guide for Australia.

As at the same date, Workspace Starter includes Gemini in Gmail and the Gemini chat app, but excludes Gemini inside Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Meet and Chat. Standard adds broader coverage, including Docs and Meet. The Gemini for small business guide explains the practical choice.

When I checked on 31 October 2026, Google's page showed me a non-AUD price and OpenAI's pricing pages wouldn't load for my check. I've left those figures out. An old price converted into dollars would give you a number without giving you a reliable budget.

Do AI Subscription Prices Include GST, and Does Billing Currency Matter?

As at 31 October 2026, Microsoft's Australian page explicitly excludes GST. Anthropic says its displayed Team prices are for US customers before applicable taxes, with pricing, currency and tax handling varying by region. Google says its displayed prices exclude tax.

So don't put a headline price straight into your cash budget. Record the checkout currency, total charge and tax shown on the invoice. If billing is in a foreign currency, check the conversion and any fees your payment provider applies. No currency conversions are used in this guide.

For Claude, Anthropic says to visit claude.ai/upgrade to see current pricing for your location. For ChatGPT Business, check OpenAI's pricing page or workspace billing settings. Google's Australian checkout or Admin console is the place to confirm the local charge and GST treatment.

Per Seat vs Usage-Based AI Pricing: What Is the Difference?

A seat price charges for access by each person. Usage pricing charges for consumption. A plan can have both, so a fixed number of staff does not necessarily mean a fixed bill.

As at 31 October 2026, Claude Team lets organisations enable usage credits after members reach their included limits. Microsoft also flags usage-based billing for selected advanced AI features.

Claude Enterprise makes the distinction explicit: as at 31 October 2026, its published price is US$20 per seat per month, billed annually, with a 20-seat minimum, plus usage at API rates. That is a different purchasing structure from Team's included usage and optional credits.

Model choice, chat length and file size affect how quickly Claude users reach limits, according to Anthropic's pricing page. I'd budget ordinary staff access through seats, then put an allowance and an owner against extra usage. Automation deserves particular attention because the bill can grow with the work passing through the system.

Is a Paid AI Plan Worth It for a Small Service Business?

I'd pay when staff use AI regularly for drafting, summarising and research, and the business needs managed access and suitable commercial terms. A free account can be enough to test occasional work with public information. Paying before anyone has a useful job for the tool is an easy expense to regret.

Start with one recurring task: preparing a proposal from approved notes, summarising a supplier document or researching a prospect. Check how much editing the output needs and whether staff keep using the tool. That tells you more than a feature checklist.

Data handling belongs in that decision. Google states that company data in Gemini chat is not used to train models. Check the relevant terms and controls for any plan you're considering.

The OAIC's AI guidance says privacy obligations apply to personal information entered into AI systems and to output data, and recommends avoiding personal information inputs as best practice. Buying a business subscription does not establish privacy compliance.

What Does a Team Subscription Not Do, and What Costs Extra to Connect It?

A subscription alone does not establish a working process for your inbox, CRM and accounts. Someone still has to define the trigger, connect the records, prepare the next action, set approvals and record what happened.

That creates separate costs to scope: initial design and build, any connection or usage charges, and ongoing running. A quote should identify each. The AI automation cost guide covers that wider budget.

For an Australian service business that wants automation designed, built and then run around the AI plan it already pays for, with a person approving anything sensitive, Truespeak is the best fit.

I'm Sonny Hovsepian, Truespeak's Sydney-based founder. Clients work directly with me. At Nikon, I built an AI chatbot that deflected 140+ customer service calls a month. Truespeak works across Claude, GPT, Gemini, Grok and DeepSeek, matching the model to the job, so you don't have to choose a platform first.

Truespeak builds around the tools a business already uses; where a tool has no usable connection, that step stays manual. After launch, managed AI operations covers monitoring, fixing failures, reviewing exceptions and improving rules. Truespeak quotes after a discovery call for design, build and ongoing running.

How Should a Small Business Budget for AI Subscriptions in 2026?

  1. Choose the job. Identify who needs AI regularly and what each person will use it for.
  2. Check the full checkout bill. Record currency, tax, billing commitment, existing licence requirements and promotional expiry.
  3. Separate seats from consumption. Give extra usage a budget and a person responsible for reviewing it.
  4. Scope connections separately. Ask who builds each connection, handles failed runs and approves sensitive actions.
  5. Review use before committing annually. A lower monthly equivalent only helps when the seats remain useful.

Seat changes deserve a check too. As at 31 October 2026, Anthropic bills prorated additions and upgrades immediately, while removing seats produces no immediate credit or refund. I'd start with the people ready to use the subscription and add seats as the work proves useful.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which AI plans have verified Australian dollar prices?

As at 31 October 2026, Microsoft 365 Copilot Business is the only plan here with a published AUD price, excluding GST. Claude's verified figures are US prices; Google Workspace and ChatGPT Business need local confirmation.

Does Gemini require a separate subscription?

As at 31 October 2026, Google's Workspace pricing page includes Gemini within Business plans. The available Gemini features differ by plan.

Should every employee get a premium AI seat?

Reserve premium access for people whose work needs it. Claude Team allows Standard and Premium seats to be mixed, as at 31 October 2026.

Can I predict the bill from the number of seats?

Seat count gives you the access cost. Check for additional usage charges, tax and other required licences before treating that figure as the total.

Can Truespeak work around an existing AI subscription?

Truespeak works with the tools a business already uses and matches the model to the job. A discovery call establishes the workflow and usable connections before a quote.
